We recently sat down with Cameron Alge, Education Sales Consultant at Technical Training Aids. Cameron’s located in North Carolina and travels to schools around the state weekly.
His favorite part of the job? Supporting students and helping schools develop and implement advanced technical training programs. He says that he really enjoys the relationship-building process, and helping implement welding, CNC, Robotics and HVAC training programs, among others!
For example, a few years back he helped install a logistics lab. Students who utilized and trained using the equipment and curriculum are now graduating – and going to jobs at companies including FedEx and Ralph Lauren! Talk about leveling the playing field for students in all communities.
The hardest part of his job? Figuring out how to gain respect from his peers. While he feels he’s gotten that part down now, it was initially a hurdle. In an uncharted role at 25 years old, Cameron makes it look easy! He mentioned that he speaks almost daily to his business/sales mentor, who also happens to be his father, who has been with TTA for over 21 years.
When he’s not traveling for work, he enjoys cheering for the Tar Heels, golfing & boating. In fact, Cameron just got back from a golfing trip to Scotland.
Success Stories
During his 4 years with the company, Cameron has numerous success stories stemming from the implementation of Technical Training Aids’ products. One notable example is the advanced manufacturing program at a local high school, which has equipped students with hands-on experience in fields such as robotics, HVAC, and electrical technology. Graduates from these programs have gone on to secure well-paying jobs, including maintenance technician positions at companies like Toyota in Guilford County. These success stories highlight the transformative impact of Technical Training Aids, providing students with valuable skills and helping them achieve career success without incurring significant student debt. Other jobs available after training on TTA’s equipment & curriculums include electrical technicians and HVAC technicians.
The North Carolina Market
Cameron shared that the North Carolina market is one of the top five growing industrial states in the USA, which presents unique needs for technical training aids. Despite initial reluctance from parents to push their children into trades, there is a growing acceptance due to the minimal student debt associated with these career paths. Schools in the region are now offering more trade programs than ever, providing valuable hands-on experience to students. Cameron employs tailored sales strategies to meet these needs, ensuring that each client has access to use the most effective solutions and training programs.
Looking Ahead & Future Insights
Looking ahead, Cameron aims to continue building strong client relationships and expanding the reach of Technical Training Aids across North Carolina. He is dedicated to helping schools and businesses implement effective training programs that provide valuable hands-on experience. Over the past 60 years, Technical Training Aids has been making technical education accessible to all, and Cameron is committed to contributing to this mission by ensuring clients receive the best training solutions. His personal and professional goals include supporting students’ skill development in North Carolina’s rapidly growing industrial state.
We asked Cameron for insights about the future of technical training programs. He emphasized that short-term training programs are becoming increasingly essential as industries seek skilled workers quickly. These programs, which can last between 16 to 20 weeks, provide students with the necessary certifications to enter the workforce quickly. This shift in curriculum at the state level will allow individuals to gain employment faster, meeting the urgent needs of the industry.
In the manufacturing space, these short-term programs are particularly beneficial. Students can complete the training and emerge with certifications that enable them to secure jobs and receive promotions year over year. This approach is a win-win for everyone involved, providing a family-sustaining wage for workers while fulfilling the demand for skilled labor in the industry. Cameron’s role in facilitating these programs across North Carolina is crucial in ensuring that students receive the best possible training and opportunities.
