Rutherford County Schools Launch Tennessee’s First Mobile Learning Labs

At Technical Training Aids, our mission has always been more than just selling equipment; it’s about empowering the next generation of the workforce. That is why we are incredibly proud to highlight our recent collaboration with Rutherford County Schools (RCS) to help bring their visionary CTE Mobile Learning Labs to life.

As the first of their kind in Tennessee, these labs represent a massive leap forward in career and technical education. By bringing industry-standard technology directly to middle school students, RCS is ensuring that every student—regardless of their zip code—has the chance to discover their passion.

What are the Mobile Learning Labs?

Funded by the state’s Innovative School Models grants, the project consists of three 48-foot semi-trailers designed to give students a hands-on “snapshot” of the 16 Career & Technical Education pathways offered at the high school level.

The labs are divided into three high-demand sectors:

  • Healthcare & STEM: Featuring patient care manikins and virtual healthcare environments.
  • Advanced Manufacturing: Equipped with 3D printers, robotics, and welding and forklift simulators.
  • Transportation & Construction: Housing simulators for heavy equipment, aviation, trucking, electric vehicle repair, and even virtual paint booths.

Our Role: Facilitating the Future of Learning

A project of this scale requires more than just a purchase order; it requires a strategic partnership. Technical Training Aids worked closely with the RCS CTE department to navigate the complexities of sourcing, logistics, and technical integration for the specialized equipment inside these trailers.

Our involvement focused on three key areas:

  1. Sourcing Industry-Grade Technology: We curated a suite of simulators and tools that mirror what students will actually find in the modern workforce, from welding simulators to advanced robotics.
  2. Grant Alignment & Procurement: Understanding the requirements of the Innovative School Models grant was critical. We helped ensure that the equipment selected met all educational standards while staying within the project’s budget.
  3. Technical Support & Training: Launching a mobile lab is a technical feat. We worked alongside build-out partners to ensure every piece of equipment was calibrated, safe, and ready for students to use the moment the trailers hit the road.

Why Mobile Labs Matter

As RCS Director Dr. Jimmy Sullivan noted during the ribbon-cutting, these labs “take the opportunities to our students.” For many middle schoolers, this will be their first interaction with a forklift simulator or a high-fidelity healthcare manikin. It’s the spark that turns a vague interest into a career path.

For us at Technical Training Aids, seeing these labs travel from Eagleville to La Vergne is a reminder of why we do what we do. We don’t just ship boxes; we facilitate the tools that build futures.
