It’s time to look again at the training simulator idea, but in a brand new, cost-effective way to complement, not replace, real seat-time.
Simlog’s new Bulldozer Personal Simulator puts you at the controls of a medium-sized bulldozer (also called “dozer”, “tractor”, “track type tractor”) in a typical construction site.
Simply set up the simulator controls, install the simulation software in English, French, or Spanish) on your desktop or laptop PC, and begin.
Add a big screen display for “life size” graphics, and quality speakers for the audio feedback. Simlog even offers a vibration system to enhance the simulation experience. There are setup options to suit most every budget.
There are seven “Simulation Modules” of increasing difficulty, starting with Controls Familiarization and then progressing through Bulldozer Positioning, Boulder Control, Backfilling 1 and 2, Slot Dozing, and finally Spreading.
Key “Performance Indicators” measure how quickly and how carefully the simulated work is performed including execution time, collisions, and criteria related to how well a trench is backfilled, is excavated, etc. With more than 20 Performance Indicators in all, feedback is diagnostic, instead of just a consolidated pass/fail score.
Simulation results are automatically saved, so trainees can progress at their own pace without trainer supervision. To simplify the record keeping, Simlog offers a database product called Simulation Manager, and the same database can be used with all of our Personal Simulators.
Simlog’s Bulldozer simulation software can also be configured, in order to simulate the behavior of a wide variety of bulldozers. For example, you can use separate pedals for Decelerator and Brake, or just a single pedal that combines both functions, to reproduce the different pedal arrangements found in real bulldozers. You can also activate (or not) “counter rotation” so that when making a tight turn, the two crawler tracks will turn in opposite directions (or not), since this kind of control is typical of some, but not all, bulldozers. You can even set the blade functions to be faster or slower!
Many kinds of USB-ready simulator controls, and mounting configurations, are available:
· Replica Controls, featuring industrial strength components, suitable for table-top mounting
· Simlog’s new Operator Chair, to obtain a superior simulation experience
· PC Controls, consisting of low cost off-the-shelf input devices
See examples of some of the simulator setup options here, or learn more about the availability of new software functionality to accommodate three high definition (HD) displays! With this three-display setup, while still using just one off-the-shelf PC system, it becomes possible to look to the left, to the right, and straight ahead just by turning your head, making the simulation experience much more “immersive”. Below an example of this setup, showing a Simlog lab installed by Technical Training Aids at Roosevelt Warm Springs in Georgia.
If you are a Simlog customer, then you may be able to re-use the simulator controls that you already have, and just purchase the new Bulldozer simulation software license.
